Ice by Ice is a short study on Ice through a macro lens, where we will be donating 40% of the profits of each sale to The World Wild Life Fund (WWF), with each piece coming with its own physical and digital work.

These shots were taken with a 100mm Canon Macro Lens and 90D Canon Camera. The sun was facing me, whilst I decided to use a Ronin RS2 to stabilise and direct the camera during what was a chilly English winter, back in February 2021 when we had some snowy days during the lockdown.

So with limited travelling during this time, I explored the surroundings around me. Fortunately, living in the countryside has its benefits. Yet sometimes, the smallest, most intricate natural formations strike your creativity.

These wonderful monocrystal icicles were just one of these. With their silky smooth and curvy, and jagged forms, they hold a timeless beauty within them.

For the icicles to form, the growth condition is essential to achieve this crystalline structure. Most icicles are polycrystalline; calm conditions can impact this structure, resulting in a monocrystal structure that I was lucky enough to capture in such detail here.

These monocrystalline ice platelets are due to the platelets growing dendritically, usually in the direct crystallographic a-axis. The diameter of the icicle essentially increases based on the freezing of water flowing down the icicle, where wind can be a factor too.

The three large photos were great at displaying these icicles' pure raw detail and monocrystalline structural formations that the naked eye can't truly capture.

They're truly a delight to behold, and we look forward to three lucky people being able to share in their beauty both digitally and in their own homes or office.

When will your Genesis 1/1 NFT Collection be released?

We're planning a release of Ice by Ice on the 12th of May at 18:00 (GMT) time, 11:00 (PT).

What Platform will you be using?

We're looking to release Ice by Ice on OpenSea after many decisions.

Do you plan to focus on using one platform for NFT collections?

We will be experimenting with various other media over the coming months to see where we gain the most interest in our works until we know which types of pieces perform best on which platform.

How rare will your NFT Collections be?

We plan to limit our NFT collections to 1/1 or 1/8 collections.

What Royalties will you be taking from your NFT Collections?

We plan to take 10% on each sale.

Will all your NFT Collections donate a percentage to charity?

Yes! Hoosei will always give 25% of sales to a dedicated charity that has a direct connection or relationship to the pieces we produce.

Will I own the right to use your work for commercial usage?

No. You will not be able to sell these pieces for commercial gain without permission from Hoosei.

How often do you plan to release an NFT Collection?

Every three months.

What will you price your 1/1 NFT Collection Pieces at?

2.86 ETH. This is the equivalent of about 8 prints from an extra-large 15 print edition at £850 ($1,050.12 or €998.10) x 7.5.

Why do you price your 1/1 NFT Collections based on the equivalent of 8 prints from an extra-large 15 print edition?

We have a set margin that we need to make from each collection to help grow our business and raise as much as possible for the charities we decide to give back to. Our original 1/1 pieces are limited to only ever printed on sizeable A3 size Fuji C-Type Paper with a custom frame, and the digital versions are 4961 × 3278 pixels.

Will the print and digital NFT be unwatermarked?

Yes. All works will be full size and watermarks will be removed.

Will I have to contact Hoosei before the sale if I sell the piece?

Yes. It is a condition of sale; if you decide to sell the piece on another platform, Hoosei must be a part of the sale process.  So that we can maintain our brand's image, the artist's story or pieces are represented accurately.

Can I use the NFT on a third-party website or app?

So long as the website/app cryptographically verifies that you are the owner, and the photo doesn’t stay on the website/app after you’ve left, then yes.

Do I have to pass on the original print I receive in any future sale?

Yes.  The conditions or our NFTs are linked to our physical pieces. If the physical or digital work is not passed on to the new owner, the new owner has the right to charge you a monthly handover fee.  Upon selling the piece, your rights for personal usage are void.

What Smart Contract type will you be using?

We will use the Polygon Network to Mint our NFTs on the VerisArt Certification Platform. Our contract will be a custom ERC-721 that uses our ENS name hoosei.eth for every transaction under account 0xa415b435007715489b2221740173c8dde4088caf.
